Pursiano Law, LLP

Laurel L. Barry
Partner

Laurel L. Barry is one of the founding partners of Pursiano Law LLP. With over 32 years of experience, Laurel has developed a tough unyielding and passionate reputation as a civil litigation attorney and advocate for protection of personal rights. She comes from a diverse background of hard rock miners, legal and medical professionals. In the true spirit of this background, Laurel’s approach to legal representation is to dig deep to discover the root cause of her clients’ problems and work with a team of forensic experts to develop sustainable solutions.

Areas of Practice

Laurel’s legal and trial experience has spanned a broad range of legal areas. She has both prosecuted and defended personal injury claims, medical malpractice, construction lien and construction defect claims.  In the early years of her practice, she had the unique experience of working with a boutique maritime law firm defending international and domestic cruise line clients with matters arising on the high seas. While in law school, she had the opportunity to clerk for San Diego attorney James McElroy, who at the time, was co-counsel with the Southern Poverty Law Center prosecuting a wrongful death and civil rights lawsuit arising from the killing of an Ethiopian college student by white supremacists and the ultimate collection on a multi-million-dollar judgment against the individual white supremacists, the hate organization, and its leaders.

For the past twenty years, Laurel’s practice has focused on representing property owners whose homes or buildings have suffered from shoddy and defective construction. She and her partners have successfully recovered over $200M for the firm’s clients.

Educational Journey

With the love of science, Laurel’s career started in the medical field. She obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Radiography at Weber State University (Ogden, Utah). She obtained her national certification and state licensing and worked for over a decade as a Radiological Technologist primarily in level one trauma centers in California. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of San Francisco. Desiring to expand her knowledge and professional growth, Laurel chose a career in the legal profession judging that it provided her with the best avenue to impact the lives of others. She graduated from California School of Law (San Diego, CA) in two years (instead of the typical 3 years).

Personal and Professional Philosophy

The crux of Laurel’s personal and professional philosophy is simple: “Equal Justice For All. Treat Everyone as You Want to Be Treated.”   Her favorite quote is “Try to Be a Rainbow in Someone’s Cloud” by Maya Angelou. Laurel gives back by supporting local non-profit organizations that are focused on supporting domestic violence survivors, addressing homelessness, and stopping human trafficking.

Outside Interests

Laurel loves sports. Golf, skiing, cycling, hockey, football. Of them all, golf is her number one passion. She enjoys the mental and physical challenges it presents. Her TPC Summerlin team has been a consistent winner at the annual TPC National Interclub tournament. Outside of the heat of battle, what truly melts her heart is her little dog, Ruby.
